Chicago, Illinois – A sharp warm-up will push temperatures near 85 degrees by Tuesday afternoon, setting the stage for strong to potentially severe thunderstorms across much of Illinois.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry and seasonable conditions hold Saturday with highs between 50 and 64 degrees, though a stray evening shower is possible north of I-80. Winds increase Sunday, with highs climbing into the 70s, followed by even warmer air surging in Monday.

By Monday night after 8 p.m., scattered storms begin developing, especially south of I-55. The threat intensifies Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, when a Level 2 out of 5 severe risk is in place. Storms during this period could produce damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and frequent lightning across Chicago, Joliet, Aurora, and northwest Indiana.

Major travel routes including I-90, I-94, and I-80 could see reduced visibility and ponding water during heavier downpours. Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds and monitor alerts as storm timing becomes more precise.

The unsettled pattern continues through midweek, with additional advisories likely as confidence increases in the severity of storms.
