Chicago, Illinois – A sharp warm-up will push inland temperatures into the 70s by Saturday afternoon, but lakefront areas could see a rapid cooldown by Sunday as a cold front moves through.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, highs will climb to between 62 and 72°F Saturday across much of northern Illinois, with even warmer readings up to 76°F possible away from Lake Michigan. Areas along the lake, including downtown Chicago, will stay cooler due to onshore winds.
By Sunday afternoon, a lake breeze and incoming cold front will drop temperatures quickly near the shoreline, with readings falling into the low 50s while inland locations remain in the 60s to mid-70s earlier in the day. Breezy conditions may impact travel along Lake Shore Drive and I-94.
Cities including Naperville, Joliet, and Rockford will see the warmest conditions Saturday before temperatures fall sharply Sunday night. By Monday, highs will struggle to reach 50°F near the lake and remain cooler region-wide into early next week.
Residents should prepare for large temperature swings, dress in layers, and monitor changing conditions Sunday. Additional updates are expected as the cooler pattern settles in.
