Chicago, Illinois – Wind gusts up to 45 mph will continue to impact the Chicago metro and northwest Indiana through 4 p.m. CST, creating travel hazards and the risk of isolated power outages.
According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, a Wind Advisory remains in effect for north central and northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana until 4 p.m. CST, or 5 p.m. EST in Indiana. West winds will range from 25 to 35 mph with peak gusts near 45 mph.
Loose objects may be blown around.
The strongest gusts are expected along Interstate 90 and Interstate 94 corridors, including Chicago, Rockford, Elgin and Gary. High-profile vehicles on open stretches of I-80, I-88 and U.S. 30 could experience difficult handling during the afternoon commute.
Tree limbs could be blown down, and scattered power outages are possible, particularly in Lake and McHenry counties and across Porter and Lake counties in Indiana.
Drivers should use extra caution, especially on bridges and elevated roadways, and secure outdoor items immediately.
Winds gradually ease late this afternoon toward early evening. The Wind Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. CST / 5 p.m. EST today.
