Naperville, IL – Two men have been charged with aggravated street racing following a high-speed crash that sent two passengers to the hospital with serious injuries, according to local authorities.
According to a joint news release from the Naperville Police Department and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, the charges stem from an April 26 crash that allegedly involved illegal street racing on Diehl Road. Officials say Jadon Ramirez, 18, of Bensenville, and Sahil Chauhan, 23, of Lisle, each face one count of Aggravated Street Racing and Aggravated Reckless Driving Causing Great Bodily Harm, both Class 4 felonies.
Police responded to a crash around 12:06 a.m. in front of the Courtyard Marriott on Diehl Road. According to authorities, a black Mercedes CLS500, allegedly driven by Ramirez, struck a tree after swerving, ejecting two of the vehicle’s four passengers. A 17-year-old male was reportedly unconscious and suffered internal bleeding, a punctured lung, and broken bones. An 18-year-old male was also seriously injured. Both were transported to a local hospital for medical attention.
Authorities allege Chauhan was driving a blue 2024 Acura ZDX and was involved in a street race with Ramirez before the crash. Officials said Ramirez lost control of the Mercedes, striking the tree at approximately 109 mph in a 40 mph zone.
DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said, “Street racing is not just illegal, it is extremely dangerous not just for those behind the wheel, but also for their passengers, other motorists and nearby pedestrians.”
Both defendants are presumed innocent and are being held pending future court dates. Ramirez is scheduled to appear July 18, and Chauhan on July 28.
