Yorkville, IL – A 21-year-old Aurora woman was hospitalized Thursday after a three-vehicle crash in Kendall County involving a gravel-hauling truck and two passenger vehicles.
According to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at 3:33 p.m. to the intersection of Plainfield Road and Schlapp Road. Investigators said a truck traveling northwest on Plainfield Road attempted to make a left turn onto Schlapp Road when it allegedly struck a vehicle traveling southeast. The impact pushed that vehicle into a third car stopped at a stop sign.
Authorities said the Aurora woman suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. No other injuries were reported.
The truck’s driver, identified as 62-year-old Jose Mendez-Palomo of Cicero, was issued a citation for allegedly failing to yield while turning left. The Sheriff’s Office noted that all criminal defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
The intersection of Plainfield and Schlapp Roads remained open following the crash, though deputies advised motorists to use caution in the area due to ongoing investigation work.
Officials did not immediately release details on the condition of the other drivers or whether alcohol or speed were factors.
