Channahon, IL – I-55 will face intermittent closures today for ComEd repairs following damage from an EF-2 tornado on July 15. The closures, impacting both directions, aim to facilitate repairs to high-tension power lines over the interstate.

According to the Channahon Police Department, I-55 will experience stops of approximately 15 minutes each, with up to 12 full stops anticipated. Starting at 11:00 a.m., traffic control setup will reduce lanes between US Route 6 and Arsenal Road. From around 2:00 p.m., full stops of traffic will begin, with southbound access from Bluff Road closed during these periods.

The repair work is expected to last approximately 12 hours. To assist with the repairs, a helicopter will be used, which may be observed flying at low altitudes. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes to avoid potential backups.

The tornado, which struck on July 15, caused significant damage to infrastructure, necessitating these urgent repairs. Motorists should plan for delays and stay updated on the latest traffic conditions.
