Illinois Tornadoes: Two Additional Twisters Confirmed in Woodford County from July 15th Event

Springfield, IL – The National Weather Service (NWS) Central Illinois has confirmed two additional tornadoes from the July 15 derecho event.

These tornadoes were identified in Woodford County, with one occurring southwest of Cazenovia and the other east-southeast of Minonk. Both tornadoes were rated EF0, with wind speeds reaching 80-85 mph. The NWS noted that these tornadoes were difficult to distinguish due to the presence of strong straight-line winds in the area.

According to the NWS, the Cazenovia tornado touched down at 8:38 p.m. and lifted just over a mile southwest of the town, with a path length of 1.42 miles and a maximum width of 30 yards. The Minonk tornado occurred from 8:55 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., traveling 3.73 miles and reaching a width of 30 yards. Both tornadoes caused property damage but no reported injuries or fatalities.
