Lincoln, IL – The National Weather Service in Lincoln is warning of a potential winter system set to move across Central Illinois beginning late Friday night through Saturday night, possibly bringing accumulating snow and hazardous travel conditions just after the Thanksgiving holiday.

According to the latest outlook, there is a 30–50% chance of snow exceeding 3 inches, mainly across central and northern portions of the state. The system could start as rain or a wintry mix before changing to snow, which may cause slippery roads and travel delays during one of the year’s busiest travel weekends.

Meteorologists note that precipitation type and exact snow amounts remain uncertain, depending on the storm’s track and timing. However, residents planning post-holiday travel should monitor updated forecasts and prepare for reduced visibility and slick road conditions Friday night into Saturday.

The NWS urges drivers to allow extra time for travel and follow weather alerts as new data comes in.
