Illinois Teen Recovering After Being Shot in Bed, Police Say

Bullets fired from outside struck the Joliet teen just after 3 a.m. Friday.

Joliet, IL – A 17-year-old Joliet boy was shot in the mouth early Friday morning while sleeping in his bedroom, according to local police. The incident occurred around 3:06 a.m. Friday, November 7, on the 900 block of Midland Avenue, prompting a heavy police response to reports of gunfire.

According to Joliet Police, investigators determined that the shots were fired from outside the residence, piercing the walls and striking the teen as he slept. The victim was taken to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

During a canvass of the neighborhood, officers located multiple spent shell casings, though no suspect information was immediately released. Two other individuals inside the home—a male adult and a female juvenile—were not injured during the shooting.
