MORRIS, Ill. – A woman remains in critical condition after being shot in the face during a shocking incident in rural Morris Saturday night.
Maxwell Williams, 18, has been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Battery. Held on a half-million-dollar bond, Williams could face up to 30 years in jail if convicted.
The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about an underage drinking party prior to the shooting. According to Prosecutors, Williams shot the woman after an altercation involving his girlfriend not an hour after officers departed the home. Williams fled the scene but was later apprehended, and the gun was recovered.
The victim, a woman in her 30s was allegedly dropping off two teens after police left the scene, was airlifted to a Chicago area hospital and is expected to survive but is currently in critical condition. Williams’ attorney says he accidentally discharged the firearm while defending his girlfriend. The judge set Williams’ bond at $500,000.
Authorities, including the Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force, are investigating the incident. Williams is scheduled to appear in court on August 8th.
