Chicago, Illinois – Thunderstorms could bring lightning and brief downpours to Chicago by early Sunday afternoon as temperatures climb into the 90s.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m. Sunday, June 29. Heat index values may reach 97°F, making outdoor activities riskier in the early afternoon. South winds will increase to 10–15 mph, with gusts potentially higher.

Temperatures are expected to peak around 92°F Sunday before cooler air arrives Monday. Showers and a few thunderstorms are likely Monday, with a 70% chance of precipitation. Independence Day celebrations could benefit from the drier, calmer pattern expected to return midweek.
