Chicago, Illinois – Strong storms and dangerous heat will converge across the Chicago metro Tuesday, July 29th, bringing flash flooding risks and high humidity just in time for the afternoon commute.

According to the National Weather Service in Romeoville, scattered thunderstorms are likely Tuesday after 2 p.m., with gusty winds, frequent lightning, and heavy rainfall possible. Some storms may reach severe levels, particularly in areas south of Interstate 80. A limited flooding risk will extend into Tuesday night as storm clusters develop and move east.

Daytime highs will approach 86°F Tuesday, with humidity pushing the heat index into the mid-90s. Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity and hydrate frequently. Keep mobile devices charged and avoid flooded underpasses and low-lying roads during heavy downpours.

Localized storms may impact key roadways such as I-55 and I-294, especially during the evening drive. While the threat eases overnight, more storms return midweek.

High waves and dangerous swimming conditions are also expected Wednesday and Thursday at Lake Michigan beaches. Elevated flooding and thunderstorm risks linger through Wednesday, though drier weather is on the horizon.
