Chicago, IL – A strong storm system is set to impact northern Illinois and northwest Indiana this week, bringing thunderstorms, heavy rain, and a risk of flooding before transitioning to snow by midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to move into the area after midnight Monday. Storm activity will increase Tuesday into Wednesday morning, with rounds of heavy rain potentially leading to localized flooding.

By Wednesday afternoon, strong northwesterly winds will develop, causing temperatures to drop and prompting a transition from rain to snow. Gusty winds may create hazardous conditions, particularly for small watercraft on Lake Michigan. Gale-force winds and high waves are expected along the Illinois and Indiana shorelines by Wednesday night.

Looking ahead, the system may bring limited snowfall late Thursday into Friday, though accumulation is expected to be minimal. However, the combination of strong winds and falling temperatures could lead to slick road conditions in some areas.

Residents should remain aware of changing weather conditions, especially those in flood-prone areas. Motorists are advised to drive with caution during heavy rain and potential snowfall later in the week. For the latest updates, visit the National Weather Service at www.weather.gov/chicago.
