Chicago, IL – Showers and thunderstorms are expected to return to the Chicago area beginning Monday evening, bringing increased humidity and a shift to more summer-like conditions through Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service Chicago, scattered storms will begin developing late Monday, primarily near Lake Michigan, before spreading inland Tuesday. While Monday will stay warm with highs in the low 80s, cooler lakefront temperatures are expected. Tuesday brings similar highs with overnight lows in the low 60s. Storm chances persist midweek, with isolated thunderstorms possible Wednesday and a higher chance for organized storms by Thursday, especially in the evening.
Communities along the Lake Michigan shore, including Evanston, Gary, and Michigan City, may see temperature swings and varying rainfall amounts due to lake breezes. Inland cities such as Aurora, Naperville, and Joliet could experience heavier downpours and brief gusty winds during afternoon and evening storms.
Residents are encouraged to keep devices charged, secure loose outdoor items ahead of potential gusts, and monitor forecasts closely. This pattern marks the first extended stretch of summer-like warmth and instability for northern Illinois in 2025.
Thunderstorm chances continue through Thursday evening, with the potential for stronger storms still under review. Updates are expected as models evolve early this week.
