Chicago, IL – Early Friday, an Illinois State Police (ISP) trooper was hit by a motorist who failed to move over on Interstate 94 near 75th Street.

According to ISP officials, the incident occurred at approximately 2:59 a.m. when the trooper’s squad car was parked in Lane 3 with emergency lights activated. While the trooper assisted a driver from a previous crash, a Mercedes driven by 33-year-old Damaya Herriott of Chicago struck the vehicle, causing it to hit the trooper. The trooper sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. Herriott, uninjured, was cited for multiple violations, including the Move Over Law and Driving Under the Influence.

ISP has reported 16 Move Over Law-related crashes with eight troopers injured so far in 2024. Violating the Move Over Law can result in fines and license suspensions. More information is available on the ISP website.
