DOWNERS GROVE, IL – A driver failed to move over early Monday morning, striking an Illinois State Police (ISP) squad car on Interstate 55.
The incident occurred at approximately 12:45 a.m. when an ISP trooper investigated a previous crash near Route 83. The squad car’s emergency lights were activated, and the trooper was outside the vehicle. A southbound Toyota Camry, driven by 29-year-old Emmanuel Adentey of Bolingbrook, struck the rear of the squad car. Adentey was not injured but received citations for violating Illinois’ Move Over Law, driving too fast for conditions, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
This marks the 25th Move Over Law-related crash for ISP in 2024. The law, known as “Scott’s Law,” requires drivers to slow down and change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles with activated lights. Violators face fines up to $10,000 and license suspension.
Illinois State Police remind motorists to prioritize safety on highways and protect emergency personnel.
