Savanna, IL – A Freeport man was taken into custody today following a non-fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred early last Wednesday morning in Savanna.

According to the Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 2, officers attempted to stop a suspected stolen vehicle on Wednesday night, June 25, around 10:19 p.m. in Freeport. The driver, identified as 59-year-old Mark Feltmeyer of Freeport, allegedly fled the scene, initiating a multi-jurisdictional pursuit that extended into Jo Daviess and Carroll counties.

Deputies from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle in Hanover later that evening, but Feltmeyer allegedly evaded capture again. At approximately 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, officers from multiple agencies, including the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Mount Carroll Police Department, and Savanna Police Department, resumed pursuit near Savanna.

Feltmeyer allegedly stopped near the intersection of Webster and Main Street, where officers attempted to arrest him. He reportedly resisted, leading to damaged squad cars and officers discharging their firearms. Feltmeyer was struck by gunfire, but continued to flee until the pursuit ended near Chicago Avenue and Gilbert Street. He was transported to a hospital and has since been released into custody at Stephenson County Jail.

Feltmeyer faces several charges, including Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Fleeing, Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer, Driving While License Suspended, and Resisting Arrest.

The ISP investigation remains ongoing. All findings will be submitted to the Carroll County State’s Attorney for review. Additional information has not yet been released.
