Chicago, IL – Two Chicago-area men are facing multiple attempted murder charges after Illinois State Police arrested them in connection with a series of expressway shootings in the city this July.

According to Illinois State Police (ISP), officers responded to an expressway shooting on Interstate 94 northbound at 47th Street in Chicago on July 9. Two victims were allegedly struck by gunfire and transported to a nearby hospital. After an investigation, ISP agents reportedly identified 36-year-old Lamarkcus R. Ferguson of Country Club Hills as a suspect. Authorities say Ferguson was taken into custody by Country Club Hills Police during a July 21 traffic stop. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office subsequently approved five counts of Attempted Murder, two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, and five counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, all Class X felonies.

Police also allege that on July 12, ISP officers responded to another expressway shooting, this time on I-90 southbound at East River Road in Chicago. One victim was allegedly struck by gunfire and taken to an area hospital for treatment. Following an investigation, ISP agents identified 22-year-old Aldo Ruiz of Wonder Lake as a suspect. According to ISP, Ruiz turned himself in to ISP Special Agents on July 23. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of Attempted Murder against Ruiz.
