Illinois State Museum Names Jenn Edginton as New Director

Springfield, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has named Jenn Edginton as the new director of the Illinois State Museum. Edginton had been serving as interim director since February 2023.

Edginton brings over two decades of museum leadership experience. She joined the Illinois State Museum in 2021 as director of interpretation after working with the Museum of Science and Industry, the Field Museum, and other institutions. She also serves on the Leadership Nominating Committee for the American Association for State and Local History.

A Michigan State University graduate, Edginton holds degrees in anthropology, education, and First Nations education. Her commitment to fostering diverse narratives is evident in her work, including a chapter in “Interpreting the Civil War at Museums and Historic Sites.”

The Illinois State Museum, located at 502 S. Spring St., offers free admission and is open daily. Visitors can explore engaging exhibits celebrating Illinois history and culture.
