Chicago, IL – A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 a.m. CDT Thursday, bringing heavy, wet snow and strong winds to portions of central, north-central, and northeast Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana. The storm is expected to impact the morning commute with hazardous road conditions and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, snowfall rates could reach up to an inch per hour overnight, accumulating between 2 to 4 inches across the region, with locally higher amounts possible. Wind gusts may reach up to 45 mph, increasing the risk of downed tree branches and poor travel conditions.

The snowfall will be particularly treacherous on bridges and overpasses, where slushy accumulations are expected despite road temperatures remaining above freezing. Commuters should plan for slippery roads and reduced visibility during the early morning hours.

Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution while driving. Illinois road conditions can be monitored at www.gettingaroundillinois.com, and Indiana residents can check https://511in.org for updates.

Conditions are expected to improve after daybreak as snowfall intensity diminishes and winds gradually subside.
