CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Illinois Fighting Illini kicked off their 2024 season with a commanding 45-0 victory over Eastern Illinois at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night. The win marked the fourth consecutive season-opening triumph for head coach Bret Bielema since taking over in 2021.

Illinois showcased a balanced attack, piling up 486 yards of total offense while the defense stifled EIU, forcing four turnovers and allowing just 49 rushing yards.

Quarterback Luke Altmyer set the tone, throwing four touchdown passes—all in the first half—while completing 19 of 24 passes for 213 yards. Pat Bryant led the receiving corps with five catches for 63 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Kaden Feagin also had a standout performance, rushing for 108 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries.

On the defensive side, Miles Scott and Torrie Cox Jr. each snagged interceptions, while Dylan Rosiek and Scott both forced fumbles to keep the Panthers in check.

Illinois will look to build on this momentum when they host No. 22 Kansas on September 7. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on FS1.
