Homer Glen, IL – A stolen vehicle investigation is underway after an armed group allegedly stole a Dodge Durango from a woman’s driveway in Homer Glen early Tuesday morning.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday to the 14000 block of S. Churchill Drive following reports of an in-progress vehicle theft. The victim told officers she attempted to remote start her vehicle but, after not hearing the engine, looked outside and allegedly saw an armed individual near her front door.
Investigators said surveillance footage showed at least three suspects involved. One stood near the door with a handgun, another kept watch near the front of the residence, and a third reportedly broke the rear window of the Durango before fleeing in the vehicle. A black Dodge Challenger, believed to be connected, was seen leaving the area immediately afterward.
The same Dodge Challenger was allegedly spotted several times earlier that morning in both Homer Township and Lockport Township, authorities said.
Using Flock license plate readers and Lojack tracking technology installed in the stolen SUV, law enforcement tracked the Durango to Chicago, where it was found with two other reportedly stolen vehicles. Three firearms—two allegedly modified with conversion kits to function as fully automatic—were also recovered. One juvenile was taken into custody, while multiple suspects remain at large.
Sheriff Mike Kelley credited the Illinois Statewide Auto Theft Task Force, the Tri-County Auto Theft Task Force, and the Illinois State Police for assisting in the investigation. The case remains active, and charges are pending.
