Lake County, IL — The Illinois Sheriff’s Association has introduced a limited-edition plush to honor Lake County K9 Dax, who passed away earlier this year. Dax, a multi-purpose K9, served with dedication for nine years alongside Deputy John Forlenza.
In March 2024, Dax sustained severe injuries to his neck and spine while apprehending a suspect. The injuries led to paralysis in his hindquarters, ending his career. Although physical therapy helped him regain some mobility, veterinarians advised against his return to active duty. Dax retired in the spring of 2024 and later succumbed to his injuries on April 12.
Proceeds from the $30 plush donations benefit the Lake County K9 Unit, supporting law enforcement efforts across Illinois. Each plush features a camo tactical vest, sheriff collar, and includes a commemorative trading card.
