Illinois: Sheriff Arrests Two in Solar Farm Burglary Near Kankakee

Kankakee, IL – Two men were arrested early Tuesday after a Kankakee County sheriff’s deputy interrupted a burglary at a solar farm.

According to police reports it began around 3 a.m., the deputy noticed a suspicious vehicle at a construction site near 4000 North and 5500 East Road. Upon investigating, the officer found evidence of a break-in and confronted the suspects. One suspect attempted to flee on a side-by-side vehicle but was quickly tracked and apprehended by a Bourbonnais Police K9 unit.

The suspects, identified as Sean A. Denby, 33, of Kankakee, and Ryan M. Newberry, 45, of Momence, were taken into custody. Both were charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools. Newberry also faces an additional charge of possessing a stolen vehicle.

Denby and Newberry remain at the Jerome Combs Detention Center awaiting court hearings. Authorities are continuing the investigation into the incident.
