Plainfield, IL – A semi-truck loaded with chicken broth rolled off Interstate 55 Sunday morning, disrupting both highway and rail traffic.
The crash occurred around 10 a.m. near Route 30, with the truck leaving the northbound lanes of I-55 and landing on the train tracks below. The Plainfield Fire Protection District reported that the truck was carrying chicken broth and disinfectant wipes. A small diesel spill was contained by firefighters.
The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Joliet by paramedics. Another vehicle involved in the incident had minor damage, but the driver declined treatment.
One lane of I-55 remains closed as cleanup crews remove debris. Train traffic through the area is halted until the semi is cleared from the tracks. Agencies including the Troy Fire District, Will County Sheriff’s Office, and CN Railroad are assisting with the response.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and plan alternate routes due to ongoing delays.
