Chicago, IL – A new report from Clarify Capital reveals shocking statistics about the rise in egg prices, with Illinois seeing the steepest surge in the nation. Since 2018, egg prices in the state have skyrocketed by over 1,000%, rising from just 42 cents per dozen to a staggering $4.82 in 2025.

The dramatic increase has left many Illinois residents grappling with the cost of one of the nation’s most common staples. According to the report, nearly one in three Americans have stopped purchasing eggs altogether, waiting for prices to fall below $5 per dozen. In Illinois, residents are feeling the full brunt of “eggflation,” a trend that has significantly impacted household budgets.

In addition to cutting back on egg consumption, many consumers have turned to alternative strategies, including bulk buying when prices drop or seeking out stores with more competitive rates. Some have even started exploring egg substitutes or backyard chicken farming in hopes of mitigating costs.

According to the study, while Illinois leads the nation with a 1,048% price hike, other states have also seen steep increases, with Arizona, North Carolina, and Missouri experiencing similar inflationary pressures. Experts predict that prices will likely continue to climb, with a national average expected to hit $5.18 per dozen by 2025, more than triple what they were just seven years ago.

As Illinoisans continue to struggle with this price surge, the report raises questions about the future of egg production and whether consumers can expect any relief in the near future. With the rising costs showing no signs of slowing, many are left wondering when, or if, prices will return to normal.
