Oswego, IL – A vehicle crashed into a Portillo’s restaurant in Oswego on Wednesday afternoon, injuring 14 people and prompting a major emergency response in the area.
According to the Village of Oswego Police Department, the crash occurred at the Portillo’s located at 2810 Route 34. The incident is believed to be accidental based on a preliminary investigation. Authorities confirmed that eight people were transported to local hospitals, while six others were treated at the scene and released. The condition of those transported is still being assessed, with one individual previously reported in critical condition.
Police reported that multiple emergency units, including a Traffic Reconstruction Officer, remain on scene as the investigation continues. The crash prompted a large-scale response that is expected to last several hours. Emergency responders are working to safely coordinate their efforts around the impacted restaurant site.
