Springfield, IL – The Illinois Attorney General has heightened alerts for residents across the state, following a surge of I-PASS text scam reports. The County Herald has confirmed several incidents submitted by readers this week living in DuPage, Will, and Kankakee counties highlighting the scam’s widespread impact.

Attorney General Kwame Raoul issued a statewide advisory on Friday, emphasizing the importance of skepticism towards unsolicited requests for personal or financial information.

The scam, involving fraudulent texts from entities claiming to be the “Illinois tollway,” has prompted warnings from the Macon County Sheriff’s Office as well. These messages falsely inform recipients about outstanding toll bills, directing them to a malicious link. The Illinois Tollway has issued a warning to I-PASS customers, advising against engaging with these phishing texts and to instead check their accounts through official means if in doubt.

Victims of the scam are encouraged to reach out to the Attorney General’s office at 1-800-243-0618 or to submit a consumer complaint. The Federal Communications Commission also accepts reports of phishing attempts online or via their hotline at 888-225-5322.
