Barrington, IL – A Deer Park man is facing a reckless homicide charge following a March crash in Barrington that left an 89-year-old woman dead.
According to the Barrington Police Department, the crash happened March 30 around 12:13 p.m. at the intersection of South Barrington Road and Dundee Road. Investigators said a vehicle driven by Lois J. Larson, 89, of Palatine, was attempting a left turn when her car was struck on the passenger side by another vehicle traveling northbound, driven by 37-year-old Abraham N. Katz of Deer Park.
Both drivers were transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital with injuries. Police said the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team was called in due to the severity of Larson’s injuries. She died from those injuries on May 24.
Following a review of crash evidence, investigators determined that Katz was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed before the collision. The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved one count of reckless homicide, a Class 3 felony, against Katz.
Katz is scheduled to appear today, Aug. 28, for a detention hearing at the Circuit Court of Cook County’s Third Municipal District in Rolling Meadows.
Police said the investigation included analysis of vehicle data and on-scene evidence before the charge was authorized. No additional details about Katz’s bond or future court dates have been released.
