Peoria, IL – Two children were hospitalized Monday evening after being found unresponsive in a pool at Mt. Hawley Country Club, prompting an urgent response from Peoria emergency crews.

According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 7700 block of N. Knoxville Avenue at approximately 7:44 p.m. after staff members discovered the children, ages 8 and 6, in the water during a private employee appreciation event. Lifesaving efforts had already begun before first responders arrived on scene.

Police said the 8-year-old regained consciousness at the scene, while the 6-year-old was resuscitated in the ambulance by paramedics. Both children were transported to a local hospital, and as of late Monday night, the 6-year-old remains in critical condition.

According to officials, the pool was closed to the public at the time of the incident. The Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division was called to the scene, and authorities say the investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances leading to the children’s presence in the pool.
