PITTSFIELD, IL – Illinois State Police K9 Remco will soon be protected with new bullet- and stab-resistant body armor, thanks to a charitable donation from the nonprofit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., according to a release from Illinois State Police Troop 6.

The custom-fitted vest, expected to arrive within ten weeks, was sponsored by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., a 501(c)(3) organization that provides lifesaving protection to law enforcement dogs across the country. Each vest is made in the U.S., National Institute of Justice (NIJ) certified, and embroidered with the message: “This gift of protection provided by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.”

Since its founding in 2009, the Massachusetts-based nonprofit has supplied more than 6,225 vests to K9 officers in all 50 states, valued at over $6.9 million. The organization supports actively employed law enforcement dogs at least 20 months old and also replaces expired vests for eligible units.

According to Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., the protective vests weigh about 4–5 pounds, include a five-year warranty, and cost approximately $1,800 each. Donations of $1,050 fully sponsor a new vest.
