Kankakee, IL – Authorities are searching for a 30-year-old woman allegedly involved in a late-night shooting at the Crestlane Apartments that left two people, including a juvenile, injured.

According to the Kankakee Police Department, officers responded around 11:32 p.m. Thursday to reports of gunfire at 200 Crestlane Drive. A large crowd had gathered outside when officers arrived, and two victims—a juvenile male and an adult female—had already been taken to a local hospital by private vehicle. Police said the juvenile was later airlifted to a Chicago hospital for advanced treatment, while the woman remains hospitalized locally.

Investigators said the incident began as a dispute over a parking space between residents and escalated into a physical altercation involving multiple individuals. During the fight, a firearm was allegedly discharged. Police recovered a firearm from a nearby apartment and determined the occupants of that unit did not possess valid Firearm Owner’s Identification cards.

Police have identified the suspect as Jazmon M. Herman, 30, described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing approximately 250 pounds. She is wanted on a Kankakee County felony warrant for aggravated battery and discharging a firearm where a child was hit. Authorities said Herman should be considered armed and dangerous.

Chief of Police Christopher Kidwell called the shooting “a reckless act of violence that endangered numerous lives, including that of a young child,” adding that detectives have been working through the night to locate the suspect.

Anyone with information on Herman’s whereabouts is urged to call Kankakee Police at 815-933-3321 or Crime Stoppers at 815-932-7463. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers’ untapped phone line.
