Decatur, IL – Illinois State Police (ISP) investigators are again asking for the public’s help in solving the homicide of a Decatur man, more than a year after his death.
According to the ISP Division of Criminal Investigation, 51-year-old James E. Taylor was reported missing on May 12, 2023. He had last been seen alive on May 10. Taylor’s body was later discovered in a rural area near his home on May 19, 2023, around 6 p.m. Authorities are treating the case as a homicide.
ISP Lieutenant Chad Dumonceaux urged community members to come forward with any information, even if it may seem small. “We encourage individuals who previously thought information they had was not relevant, or who may have been hesitant to come forward, to reach out to law enforcement. Small pieces of information can sometimes turn into big leads,” Dumonceaux said.
Decatur Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $2,500 for tips leading to progress in the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (217) 423-8477 or submit tips online at maconcountycrimestoppers.com.
Tips can also be submitted directly to ISP Zone 5 through the hotline at (217) 278-5004 or by email at ISP.Zone.5.Investigations@Illinois.gov. Witnesses may remain anonymous.
