Channahon, IL – Illinois State Police arrested two individuals Friday after a police pursuit of a homicide-linked tow truck came to a dramatic stop on I-55. Officers from multiple agencies, including Channahon and Wilmington police, converged on the truck near Bluff Road after the driver barricaded inside, prompting the call for SWAT, negotiators, and an Arabic translator.
ISP officers initially attempted to stop the tow truck around 11:30 a.m. near 147th and Halsted in Harvey, but the driver continued to flee. According to Posen police, a plate reader flagged the truck as wanted in connection with a Chicago homicide, sparking the pursuit.
The driver led officers onto I-55, eventually stopping near mile marker 243. A standoff ensued, completely shutting down southbound I-55. Law enforcement requested SWAT support, and officers worked to negotiate with those inside the vehicle.
Shortly before 1 p.m., the two occupants surrendered to authorities. ISP confirmed both were taken into custody without further incident.
