Gurnee, IL – A Gurnee man is in custody after police responded to an overnight burglary early Thursday on the 5200 block of Grand Avenue, ending with the suspect apprehended following a brief foot pursuit.

According to a statement released by the Gurnee Police Department, officers were alerted by a business alarm just after 1:15 a.m. Thursday. Police said officers arrived on scene and encountered a male suspect, who allegedly attempted to flee on foot before being quickly taken into custody without further incident. Authorities identified the suspect as Enosh Mekson, 31, of Gurnee.

Investigators reported that a search of Mekson’s backpack allegedly turned up proceeds believed to have been stolen from the business. Police allege Mekson was responsible for the break-in and have charged him with multiple offenses, including Class 2 felony theft (valued between $10,000 and $100,000), Class 4 felony criminal damage to property, as well as Class A misdemeanors for resisting and obstructing a peace officer.

Mekson appeared in court Thursday morning at the Lake County Courthouse in Waukegan. According to police, at this time investigators do not believe Mekson is connected to other recent burglaries reported in the area the previous night.

The Gurnee Police Department encourages anyone with further information about the case to contact investigators.
