St. Charles, IL – A Carpentersville man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly arming himself during a police response to his home in August.
According to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, 26-year-old Deshawn Jones was charged this week with four counts of armed violence, possessing a controlled substance, and multiple counts of aggravated assault of a peace officer following an August 28 incident that led to an officer-involved shooting.
Authorities say Jones called 911 three times requesting assistance. When Carpentersville Police officers arrived at his residence, they found only Jones and his adult brother inside. Paramedics were summoned to provide aid, but Jones allegedly refused treatment and moved into a bedroom. Officers discovered a weapon near suspected cocaine before Jones reportedly armed himself with a revolver from a closet in the presence of police.
Police stated they issued commands for Jones to surrender, which he ignored. Fearing for their safety, officers discharged their firearms while retreating. Jones was struck and later transported for medical care. Officers also recovered an AK-47 at the scene.
After being released from the hospital on Monday, Jones was transferred to Kane County Jail. A judge granted the prosecution’s request for pretrial detention on Tuesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 17 at 9 a.m. at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Jones remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty. The Kane County Major Crimes Task Force is conducting an independent investigation of the officer-involved shooting, as required under the Illinois Police and Community Relations Act.
