Morris, IL – Residents in Morris will soon see expanded mental-health and crisis-response services after the Morris Police Department announced a new partnership with the Crossroads Counseling Center this week.

According to the Morris Police Department, the collaboration will allow officers to connect residents with professional case management, victim advocacy, crisis follow-up support, and substance-use and trauma-related services. The program is designed to reduce repeated law-enforcement contact by giving residents faster access to mental-health professionals.

Chief of Police Alicia Steffes said the goal is to reach individuals during or immediately after a crisis, rather than leaving them on waiting lists. Steffes noted that partnering with Crossroads Counseling Center strengthens the city’s ability to respond to high-trauma cases, domestic-violence situations, and chronic mental-health concerns.

Mayor Chris Brown called the partnership “a major step forward,” saying it will help ensure residents facing difficult circumstances receive compassionate, professional support. City officials emphasized the program as an investment in long-term community safety and well-being.

The new service will be led by Angela Solis, a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and owner of Crossroads Counseling Center. Solis said she and her team are prepared to work alongside officers to close gaps between behavioral-health needs and law enforcement, ensuring continuous support for individuals in crisis.

The initiative is funded through the Nejedlo Grant, obtained by Crossroads Counseling Center with support from the Schultz Foundation for Advancing Counseling. The Morris City Council approved the partnership on December 2, 2025, with services expected to be available early next year for individuals referred by police.

City officials say the collaboration reflects a broader push to increase early-intervention services and reduce the long-term impacts of untreated mental-health issues within Morris.
