St. Louis, Missouri – Relentless, dangerous heat continues to blanket the St. Louis region Tuesday, with heat index values expected to reach a sweltering 112 degrees through 7 p.m. Thursday. Public health officials are urging residents in both Missouri and Illinois to take immediate precautions as heat-related illness risks surge across the metro.

According to the National Weather Service, an Extreme Heat Warning remains in effect for St. Clair and Monroe counties in Illinois, as well as Franklin, Jefferson, St. Charles, St. Louis County, and St. Louis City in Missouri. The warning, which started overnight, highlights the risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for those without air conditioning or who must spend prolonged time outdoors.

In St. Louis City, emergency cooling centers are open, and energy assistance is available by calling United Way’s 2-1-1 line or Cool Down St. Louis at 314-241-7668. Similar resources are available throughout St. Charles, Belleville, and Union, where local agencies are urging people to stay hydrated, remain indoors during the hottest hours, and check on elderly neighbors.

Travelers and outdoor workers should schedule strenuous activities early or late in the day. Pets and children should never be left in vehicles, even for short periods. Light clothing, frequent rest breaks, and staying informed about symptoms of heat exhaustion are critical.

The extreme heat is forecast to continue until Thursday evening, with additional advisories possible if temperatures remain elevated. Residents should monitor local updates and be prepared for continued hot, humid weather into the weekend.
