St. Louis, MO – Scattered thunderstorms threaten eastern Missouri and southwest Illinois as the first full day of fall begins Tuesday, September 23. Commuters and residents should plan for wet roads and possible delays as showers move through the region.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, storms are most likely Tuesday afternoon and evening, especially across St. Louis and Metro East communities. Forecasters warn of brief heavy rain, gusty winds, and reduced visibility on major roadways, including Interstates 55, 64, and 70. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time and keep headlights on in rain.

Rain chances remain elevated through midweek. Thunderstorms may redevelop Wednesday, with additional showers possible Thursday. Forecasters say rainfall will be scattered, meaning some areas could see repeated downpours while others stay drier. Spotter activation is not currently expected.

Temperatures will stay seasonable, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s and lows in the 60s. The pattern suggests a classic fall transition, mixing warm, humid air with incoming cooler fronts.
