Jefferson County, IL – An 83-year-old man was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle while standing in his yard in rural Jefferson County, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said they responded at about 2:30 p.m. to a home at 16763 N. Casey Pike Lane, where they found Charles Cimera unresponsive with severe injuries. Cimera was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

Vernon was driving a 2009 Mercedes when she allegedly drove off Casey Pike Lane, striking Cimera before hitting a tree and stopping in a neighboring yard. Authorities cited Gupta for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and said she was issued a mandatory court appearance.
The Illinois State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit assisted sheriff’s detectives at the scene as the investigation continues.
