BEACH PARK, Ill. – A Chicago man has died after reportedly punching out a bar window in an unidentified bar.
According to investigators, the incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning when Jonathan Banks, a 32-year-old resident of Chicago, engaged in a heated argument with another bar patron, leading to his expulsion by security.
Banks was rushed to a nearby hospital after reporting punching a window, but tragically, he did not survive. The coroner’s office later confirmed that his death was a result of self-inflicted sharp force injuries.
Lake County Sheriff’s Investigators, preliminary investigations indicate that Banks became involved in a verbal altercation with another individual inside the bar before being escorted out. It was outside the establishment that he resorted to violence, striking the window with his fist.
While being driven to the hospital by a friend, the injured man allegedly experienced intermittent consciousness and, at one point, grabbed the steering wheel, causing the vehicle to collide with a curb and a trash can, rendering it inoperable.
Paramedics promptly arrived at the scene and transported Banks to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
