
Zion, IL – An 18-year-old was injured and a family’s French bulldog was killed during a chaotic incident on June 3 in Zion. The altercation began around 11:15 a.m. near 31st St and Gabriel Ave, leading to multiple 911 calls.
According to the Zion Police Department, Arthur Scarborough, 22, allegedly stabbed a family member inside a residence in the 3000 block of Gabriel Ave. The victim, suffering from a puncture wound to the jaw, reported hearing gunfire while fleeing the scene. Responding officers found Scarborough running with a 2-year-old child, whom he reportedly attempted to conceal in a nearby garbage can.
Scarborough reportedly discharged a firearm, killing the family’s French bulldog before taking the child from the residence. Officers handcuffed Scarborough and safely retrieved the unharmed child, returning them to an adult family member.
It was later learned Scarborough had reportedly consumed illegal substances prior to the incident. He was transported to a medical facility under police watch, where he allegedly made concerning statements about harming others.
Scarborough now faces multiple charges including aggravated battery, reckless discharge of a firearm, and child endangerment. He remains in custody at the Lake County Jail, awaiting a First Appearance Court hearing.
