Marion, IL – A Williamson County man has been arrested following a $19,000 theft from the Lake of Egypt Water District, according to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a burglary report on August 19, 2025, after learning that multiple brass fittings had allegedly been stolen from the Water District. Authorities later recovered some of the stolen items in a wooded area nearby.
According to investigators, surveillance imagery showed a suspect reentering the property to collect the stolen items. The suspect was identified as Shawn D. Quertemous. On September 3, 2025, a Williamson County judge issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Quertemous on a Class 2 felony burglary charge.
Deputies located Quertemous on September 11, 2025, and transported him to the Williamson County Jail. Sheriff Jeff Diederich said the case highlights the persistence of investigators and the importance of protecting local infrastructure.
“Crimes that target our critical infrastructure, like the Water District, have a direct impact on the safety and quality of life for our citizens,” Diederich said in a statement.
