Villa Park, IL – A Chicago man was allegedly found hiding in a closed dumpster after a late-night high-speed police chase that reached 118 mph across DuPage County.

According to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, 30-year-old Louis Robinson, of the 2900 block of W. Warren Boulevard in Chicago, was denied pre-trial release after being charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, a Class 4 felony.

The Villa Park Police Department reported the incident began around 11:40 p.m. on Monday, when officers spotted a black 2016 Kia Optima allegedly stolen out of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Police attempted a traffic stop near North Avenue and Joyce Avenue, but the vehicle, allegedly driven by Robinson, fled eastbound on North Avenue, reaching speeds of 108 mph.

Authorities allege that Robinson disobeyed multiple red lights while weaving through intersections at North Avenue and Addison Road, Route 83, and York Road. The pursuit continued onto I-290 eastbound, where speeds allegedly peaked at 118 mph before the Kia was stopped with the help of deployed stop sticks.

Robinson allegedly fled on foot after the vehicle came to a stop near Hillside. He was located about 20 minutes later hiding in a closed dumpster on the 500 block of Darmstadt Road.

No injuries were reported during the chase, and no other vehicles were struck, according to officials.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said the case “sends a crystal-clear message” that fleeing police will lead to swift apprehension. Villa Park Police Chief Todd Kubish echoed the sentiment, calling Robinson’s actions “willful and wanton disregard” for public safety.

Robinson is due back in court September 15 before Judge Ann Celine O’Hallaren Walsh.
