Illinois Library Shut Down by Gas Leak

Darien, IL – A natural gas leak forced the closure of the Indian Prairie Public Library in Darien Thursday afternoon, disrupting the daily routines of library-goers. 

According to reports it began around 3pm and lead to the forced closure as Nicor gas technicians arrived on the scene to evaluate the situation. More information is expected to be released on the Library’s website at ippl.info.

This unfortunate incident comes at a time when the Indian Prairie Public Library had recently extended its operating hours. Starting on Tuesday, Sept. 5, the library had been open one hour longer from Monday to Thursday. The new hours were as follows:

  • Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Friday & Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Sunday: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
