Glendale Heights, IL – A Glendale Heights teenager has been ordered detained after allegedly fleeing from police and discarding a loaded ghost gun with a fifty-round magazine in a residential neighborhood this week.
According to a statement from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office, Judge Kishori Tank ruled that the sixteen-year-old male must remain in custody until his next court appearance after being charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Authorities allege the teen was on court supervision for an unrelated driving offense at the time of the incident.
Police responded to a report of four individuals allegedly spray-painting graffiti near the 500 block of Sidney Avenue on Sunday. Officers say the suspects fled through neighborhood backyards. After a brief pursuit, police detained the juvenile, discovering a 3D-printed firearm—commonly known as a ghost gun—with a loaded fifty-round drum magazine in the path where he allegedly ran. The teen reportedly threw the weapon into a residential yard as police closed in.
Authorities state that two other juveniles were also taken into custody and now face misdemeanor charges related to criminal defacement of property and obstructing police. Both have been released pending trial.
“There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for a sixteen-year-old boy to be in possession of a loaded firearm, particularly a ghost gun with a fifty-round magazine,” DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. Glendale Heights Police Chief George Pappas credited law enforcement’s rapid response and ongoing vigilance for preventing potential tragedy.
The juvenile is scheduled to appear in court again on July 28, 2025.
