QUAD CITIES, IA–IL – Blowing snow drifts across highways this morning, creating low visibility and slick spots from Davenport to Moline. Winds gusting near 40 mph whip loose snow over bridges and open fields, turning early travel into a challenge for post-holiday drivers heading west on I-80 or north on Route 61.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, a Winter Weather Advisory remains active until noon Sunday. The advisory warns of blowing and drifting snow, with near-whiteout bursts possible in rural stretches. Temperatures hover near 22°F, but biting winds drop feels-like readings into the single digits. Authorities urge drivers to slow down and keep extra distance, especially on untreated roads.

Conditions briefly calm Sunday evening before the next system arrives Monday afternoon. Meteorologists expect widespread light snow, with 1–3 inches possible across portions of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois. Snow could fall steadily through Monday night, potentially impacting Tuesday morning commuters as colder air settles behind the system.

By midweek, the region remains locked in a cold snap. Highs struggle to reach 30°F, and clear nights may lead to flash freezing on secondary roads. Early signs hint at another storm system late in the week, possibly bringing heavier snow to areas near the Mississippi River Valley.

Five-Day Outlook (Davenport–Moline Area)

  • Monday: Snow develops, highs near 28°F, 1–3″ possible.
  • Tuesday: Mostly cloudy, high 27°F, slick travel early.
  • Wednesday: Partly sunny, high 30°F, cold night near 11°F.
  • Thursday: Clear, highs in upper 20s, continued chill.
  • Friday: Breezy, highs near 32°F, watching next snow chance.
