A Blizzard Warning remains in effect until early afternoon for parts of eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois, including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and surrounding communities. Meteorologists warn that 3 to 6 inches of snow combined with wind gusts near 55 to 60 mph will continue creating near-whiteout conditions through midday.
Drivers across Interstate 80, I-74, and I-280 should expect sudden visibility drops. Blowing snow may cover lane markings and create slick patches on bridges and elevated roadways.
Current temperatures hover near 23°F, but wind chills feel closer to the single digits. The combination of cold air and strong winds makes conditions feel biting and raw across eastern Iowa and western Illinois.
Travel will likely remain hazardous through the morning hours. Gusty winds could also bring down tree limbs or cause scattered power outages in exposed areas. Secure outdoor items and avoid unnecessary travel until winds begin easing.
Snow intensity gradually decreases later today. However, blowing and drifting snow may continue across open farmland and rural highways even after snowfall tapers.
Cold air settles in tonight with lows plunging near 6°F under clearing skies. Any melted snow may refreeze, raising the risk of flash freezing on untreated roads and sidewalks.
Another round of snow arrives Tuesday night into early Wednesday as a quick-moving clipper system crosses the Midwest. A few inches could fall, especially north of Interstate 80.
By Wednesday, skies clear and a major warmup begins. Temperatures climb into the 40s, hinting at a strong shift toward spring weather later this week.
