Davenport, Iowa – Drivers along the Illinois–Iowa border are facing slick interstates right now, with icy patches freezing over key corridors just as the morning commute ramps up. Bridges, ramps, and untreated stretches along I-80 and I-74 are հատկապես hazardous, especially north of the I-80 corridor where lingering snow and ice remain in place.
According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office and latest DOT road reports issued around 5:15 a.m., multiple routes across eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois are still partially covered with snow and ice. Pavement temperatures remain below 32°F, meaning any leftover moisture is refreezing and creating widespread slick spots.
I-80 between Iowa City and the Quad Cities, along with I-74 through Moline and Davenport, is seeing the most consistent issues. I-280 and elevated ramps near the Mississippi River are also freezing quickly. In Illinois, routes toward Rockford and along I-88 show additional ice coverage, with some rural highways fully coated.
Drivers should slow down, increase following distance, and avoid sudden braking. IDOT and Iowa DOT crews continue treatment operations, but shaded and elevated areas will stay icy through mid-morning.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve as temperatures rise later in the day, but caution remains critical until at least late morning. Additional advisories could be issued if refreezing persists.
