Iowa–Illinois – Rain is already moving through the Quad Cities this morning, and more rounds are lining up that could quickly overwhelm roads by midweek. Wet pavement now is just the start of a much heavier pattern setting in.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, scattered storms continue through today with two key waves expected through the end of the week. Rainfall totals are likely to exceed 2 inches across the region, with some areas seeing 3 inches or more by Saturday.

Across Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, and Bettendorf, the first round of storms peaks through midday, followed by another round between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. While severe risk remains low, isolated storms could still produce gusty winds and small hail.

The bigger concern builds by Wednesday night into Thursday morning. That’s when widespread rain becomes more consistent, increasing the risk for standing water on roads like I-80, I-74, and Highway 61. Visibility may drop during heavier downpours, especially during commute hours.

By late week, repeated storms continue into Saturday. Small creeks and low-lying areas could begin to rise, especially where rainfall totals stack up over multiple days. Avoid flooded roadways and allow extra travel time.

Early April starts wet across eastern Iowa and western Illinois, with additional updates likely as rainfall totals come into clearer focus.

Rain is already falling in parts of the Quad Cities. Are roads starting to pool where you are yet?
